Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato makes a comeback – 38 units only, 19 Coupe and 19 Speedster models

Now this one really is surprising. Remember the Aston Martin V12 Zagato from 2012? Well, that’s about to make a comeback. Italian independent coach-building company, Zagato, has announced that it will build 38 units of the special model, although this time production will be split into 19 Coupes and 19 Speedsters.

That’s right folks, the Vantage V12 will be available as a Speedster for the first time (Aston Martin never made a Speedster model of the Vantage before). Both models are built to commemorate Zagato’s 100th anniversary, and their official name is quite a mouthful – the Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato Heritage TWINS by R-Reforged.

According to Zagato, the pair gets the usual bespoke treatment, this time paying tribute to the design language from the 1950s and 1960s. Company boss Dr Andrea Zagato said: “The Aston Martin V12 Zagato Heritage TWINS by R-Reforged are an exceptional tribute to our very own heritage. They are the most beautiful retro-future designed Zagatos to be ever produced. They combine the best of two automotive worlds: A Speedster in its purest form and the perfectly shaped and astonishing silhouette of the Coupe.”

However, the cars will not be built by Aston Martin. Instead, they will be produced by R-Reforged GmbH, a sister company of Dynamic GmbH (subsidiary company of AF Racing, which is Aston Martin’s motorsports and Valkyrie hypercar project). All cars will be commissioned in close co-operation with Zagato Milano, with deliveries scheduled to begin in Q4 2019.

There’s no word on performance upgrades, so expect it to retain the aluminium 5.9 litre V12 engine, making 517 PS at 6,500 rpm and 570 Nm of torque at 5,750 rpm. With a six-speed manual transmission, the rear-wheel drive coupe completes the zero to 100 km/h dash in 4.2 seconds before topping out at 305 km/h. Items such as a carbon-fibre propeller shaft and limited-slip differential should be standard as well.
