FIRST DRIVE: 992-gen Porsche 911 Carrera S in Spain

The Porsche 911 is arguably one of the most iconic cars in automotive history. It has lived through eight generations over a period of 56 years, and the latest 992 model is by far the most advanced and heavily revised version in the history of 911s.

To start, nearly all of the car in its entirety is new, and that includes a brand new chassis that’s specifically designed to accommodate an electrified powertrain. In fact, the engine has been moved forwards by a staggering 200 mm, which improves the car’s directional stability and its overall dynamics.

Power comes from a new 3.0 litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine that makes 450 PS at 6,500 rpm and 530 Nm of torque at 2,300 to 5,000 rpm, which is 30 hp and 30 Nm more than the 991.2 Carrera S. Power is routed to the wheels via a newly-developed eight-speed PDK transmission, rocketing the coupe from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds (3.5 seconds with Sport Chrono pack).

In a world where conformity is the norm, the 911 continues to abide the rear-mounted boxer engine mantra, meaning it’s almost, if not completely exclusive to the 911 breed. The only thing that’s different this time around is that the powertrain can be electrified. That said, just how good is the new Porsche 911 Carrera S?
