Jaguar I-Pace wins 2019 German Car of the Year award

The Jaguar I-Pace has won the inaugural German Car of the Year award, beating out other finalists like the Audi A6, Volkswagen Touareg, Peugeot 508 and Hyundai Nexo.

The I-Pace beat out 59 other cars in a series of a comparison tests conducted by a panel of 12 motoring journalists, with Jaguar’s first fully electric vehicle (EV) being praised for its driving dynamics, performance and style.

Among the aspects that were considered include vehicle’s design, performance, ride, handling, future viability and general relevance of each model on the road and at the Bilster Berg circuit.

“We are extremely proud to receive this honour from the German media for our first fully electric vehicle, the Jaguar I-Pace. To get such an award in the homeland of premium brands is very precious,” said Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover.

The I-Pace made its debut in March this year, packing a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides power to two electric motors (one on each axle) for a total system output of 400 PS and 696 Nm of torque. It takes just 4.8 seconds to complete a 0-100 km/h sprint, and has WLTP-rated range of up to 480 km.
