VW Opens Pre-Orders For ID.3 Electric Hatchback: Confirms Range Ratings

Volkswagen launched pre-booking for the ID.3 with a price below €40,000 and a 58 kWh battery for 420 km (261 miles) of WLTP range

Volkswagen launched a pre-ordering option for its new all-electric hatchback, which by the way officially received the name of Volkswagen ID. 3 (previously named Volkswagen I.D.).

The entire family of models will be named using the “ID.” prefix. The German manufacturer also re-confirmed its intention to launch ID. CROZZ, ID. VIZZION and ID. ROOMZZ.

“The number 3 is significant in two ways. On the one hand, it indicates the ID. as belonging to the compact segment, which is the class distinction in both internal and industry-wide classification systems. On the other, the ID.3 follows the Beetle and the Golf to introduce the third major chapter of strategic importance for the history of the brand.”

“Every member of this model family will bear the name ID., which represents a new, independent series of products in the brand portfolio. While the Beetle once mobilized the masses, and the Golf as the class leader featured great innovations in each generation, the ID. will make e-mobility accessible to a broad spectrum of customers. The name ID. stands for intelligent design, identity and visionary technologies.”

The official world premiere of the ID.3 is scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. This is why we still see the images of a highly camouflaged car.

Volkswagen ID.3 pre-order

Volkswagen ID.3 will be offered in three regular versions and one special limited edition, which will be sold in the begining:

The ID.3 1ST special edition will be limited to 30,000 vehicles and equipped with a medium battery pack (58 kWh, 420 km / 261 miles of WLTP range) and comprehensive equipment.

“Volkswagen is offering the ID.3 1ST special edition in four colors and three versions. All the versions will feature large wheel rims and comprehensive equipment: the ID.3 1ST with comprehensive convenience features, including voice control and navigation system, the ID.3 1ST Plus with additional IQ. Light and bi-color exterior and interior design, and the ID.3 1ST Max with large panoramic glass roof and innovations such as the augmented reality head-up display.”

Registration deposit is €1,000 (£750 in the UK, but could vary in other countries), while orders will be accepted after IAA. Customers in Germany will be able to confirm their order (or not) by the end of April 2020.

“With immediate effect, potential customers can register for an early production slot for the ID.3 at www.volkswagen.com/id-prebooking by paying a registration deposit of €1,000. The ID.3 1ST special edition, which has been especially configured for pre-booking, includes high-quality, high-performance equipment and is limited to 30,000 vehicles. Volkswagen is equipping the ID.3 1ST with the medium-sized battery option later available for the ID.3 series, which is expected to be most popular.”

“In most markets, the ordering phase for pre-booking customers will start just after the IAA. Customers will then be able to place a binding order for one of the three exclusive ID.3 1ST models with the Volkswagen dealer they prefer. In Germany, the binding order will become effective in April 2020. Up to that point, customers will be able to cancel their registration at any time without any charge, in which case the registration deposit will be immediately refunded.

Pre-booking is being offered in 29 European markets. The most important markets in Europe for the ID.3 will be Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the UK and Austria. On average, Volkswagen plans to deliver more than 100,000 vehicles per year to customers.”

The Volkswagen ID.3 1ST will get 1 year of free charging (up to 2,000 kWh) at authorized charging networks.

“Volkswagen is offering ID.3 1ST buyers the possibility of taking electric power for their vehicles free of charge for the first year up to a maximum of 2,000 kWh – at all public charging points connected to the Volkswagen charging app We Charge, and also using the pan-European IONITY rapid charging network, in which Volkswagen is participating, which offers eco-power where this is technically feasible.

Series production should start in late 2019, but first deliveries to customer are now expected in mid-2020, which is more than a year from now and several months later than we expected.

Target production is claimed to be above 100,000 annually.

“Production of the ID.3 1ST is to start, as planned, at the end of 2019 and the first vehicles are to be delivered to customers in mid-2020.”
