Watch An A90 Toyota Supra Get Transformed Into A 2JZ Drift Machine

Just a couple of months on from the reveal of the A90 Toyota GR Supra, there’s already a 2JZ-GTE-powered version. Highly tuneable though the stock ‘B58’ BMW engine is, an A90 powered by the revered Toyota inline-six seemed inevitable, and it wasn’t at all surprising that the first person to take the plunge was a pro drifter. What better way to drum up publicity for sponsors?

Said sideways ace is Daigo Saito, whose own organisation Fat Five Racing built the car, astonishingly, in just 42 days. An abridged view of the build can now be seen in a new video (above), showing the B58 going out and the 2JZ – complete with a 3.4-litre HKS enlargement kit – going in. It’s fed by an HKS GT III 4R turbocharger, bringing the power to around 800bhp. 3.4-litre HKS 2Js are good for 1000bhp, so there could be more to come.

The entire front end looks to be new, with the A90 gaining a whole new suspension setup plus steering arms to give much greater angle for opposite-lock glory. The wheels are much wider than before too, necessitating the fitting of wider arches, which also happen to look incredible.

The debut of the car last weekend at Obaida’s D1GP All Star Shootout didn’t go brilliantly, however. It suffered two fires, one in the paddock, and another occurring mid-run.

Hopefully the car will be back running and shredding tyres soon.
