The New Land Rover Defender Will Come in Three Sizes

Land Rover used to offer its iconic Defender in three different sizes. There was the two-door 90 (with a 93-inch wheelbase), the four-door 110 (with a 110-inch wheelbase), and the 130, a two-door, 127-inch-wheelbase pickup. This three-model lineup will return with the new Defender.

This information was revealed when a forum poster published what looks like a dealership information presentation on Land Rover enthusiast site Disco4.com. The presentation outlines key specs and options for each of the three variants.

Naturally, the smallest is the 90, with a wheelbase of 101.8 inches. Both the 110 and the 130 will share a 119-inch wheelbase. The 130 will be 13.5 inches longer overall, to make room for seating for up to eight. The 90 will be offered as a five- or six-seater, while the 110 will be available with up to seven chairs, according to the forum post.

The four-door 110 will arrive first, hitting the market in October according to the info at Disco4.com. Those who want the 90 will have to wait until March 2020, while the 130 will arrive in August 2020 as a 2021 model-year.

The slides in the presentation also outline powertrain options. Buyers will have a choice between diesel and gas engines displacing either 2.0 or 3.0 liters, which we suspect will be the new inline-fours and -sixes from Jaguar Land Rover’s Ingenium family. The most powerful Defender will be a plug-in hybrid, which will likely combine a 296-hp turbo gasoline four-cylinder with a 114-hp electric motor housed within the gearbox for just under 400 system hp total.

Automotive News Europe reports that the Defender will make its debut this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It should arrive in the US not too long after that.
