Not so long ago, Aston Martin made a DB9 Bond Edition. Understandably, it caused a cringe or two at the time. Everyone knows about the Aston Martin/James Bond connection, so does it really need to be pointed out with a bunch of deeply uncool 007 badges?

Now, Aston Martin is at it again with the very un-subtle Bond references. But this time, the results are at least a little more agreeable. Gaydon has cooked up a limited-run version of the DBS Superleggera, designed to look a little like the 1969 DBS used for On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the sixth Bond film.

The car is rather lengthily dubbed as the On Her Majesty’s Secret Service DBS Superleggera, which is best abbreviated to DBS OHMSS. It has a similar Olive Green finish to the original, while the incredibly spangly diamond-turned forged rims echo the older car’s wire wheels. The 21-inch set is bespoke to this particular DBS, as is the six-vane grille insert.

Step inside, and you’ll find black leather and grey Alcantara with red accents, along with – sigh – various 007s and OHMSS logos. If you want, you can option a “bespoke designed drinks case” that fits snuggly in the boot and has room for a couple of bottles of your favourite champagne plus a quartet of champagne flutes. Not for use when driving, obvs.

The 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 hiding under the huge front-hinged clamshell bonnet has been left unchanged, but let’s face it, the 715bhp it provides in the standard DBS doesn’t leave one wanting for more power. It’ll whisk you from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds, on to a 211mph top speed.

The price for all this is £300,007 (very good, Aston, very good). Only 50 will be made, in a nod to 2019 being the 50th anniversary of the film.
