BMW unveils the X7 SUV

BMW has unveiled the X7 SUV, which will be made at the BMW Plant in Spartanburg, USA and is expected to go on sale in March 2019.

The X7 measures 5,151 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, 1,805 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 3,105 mm. It comes with an 83-litre fuel tank and a 326-litre boot capacity which can be increased to 2,120-litres after folding two rows of seats.

The front is dominated by a large kidney grille in chrome. It gets dual slim LED headlights as standard while BMW Laserlight is available as an option. It gets a silver skid plate at the front and a dual slat air dam with pentagonal vents on either side. The centre of the air dam houses a radar unit for assistive technologies. The side profile has a prominent shoulder line and a kink in the lower areas of both the doors. It gets roof rails and a chrome window surround. The rear features wraparound tail lights, dual rectangular exhaust tips, silver skid plate and a roof spoiler. A chrome bar runs across the middle of the tailgate. The car rides on 20-inch alloy wheels, while 21-inch and 22-inch wheels are optional.

The X7 gets a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel and dual tone dashboard with dual 12.3-inch screens for driver information as well as infotainment. It can be configured with 6 or 7 seats with electric adjustment for all the seats. The 2nd and 3rd row seats can be folded with a touch of a button to liberate more storage space. The car comes with Vernasca leather trim, 4-zone climate control, panoramic roof and Bowers and Wilkins music system. Customers can choose from Design Pure Excellence, M Sport and BMW Individual which allows interior customizations. The car rides on air suspension that can vary the X7’s ground clearance by 80 mm.

Engine options include a 3.0-litre, inline 6-cylinder petrol unit with twin turbochargers rated at 335 BHP @ 5,500-6,500 rpm / 450 Nm @ 1,500-5,200 rpm, a 4.4-litre, V8 petrol engine with dual turbochargers good for 456 BHP @ 5,250-6000 rpm / 650 Nm @ 1,500-4,750 rpm, a 3.0-litre, inline 6-cylinder, twin turbo charged diesel engine with 261 BHP @ 4,000 rpm / 620 Nm @ 2,000-2,500 rpm and a 3.0-litre, quad turbo, inline 6-cylinder unit tuned by M Performance good for 394 BHP @ 4,400 rpm / 760 Nm @ 2,000-3,000 rpm. All the engines are paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all the four wheels. An optional off-road package adds 4 modes – Gravel, Rocks, Snow and Sand.

Safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Steering and lane assistant, lane keeping assistance with side collision alert, evasion aid, Cross Traffic warning, Wrong way warning, emergency stop assistant and reverse assistant.
