F1: Sebastian Vettel is trying to figure out what went wrong this year

Sebastian Vettel was asked in Austin Thursday what went wrong in 2018.

Vettel was ahead in the driver’s championship at one point, but in the last month, it has all seemingly fallen apart. Entering this weekend’s U.S. Grand Prix, Vettel’s title hopes are dead in the water. Lewis Hamilton has a shot at clinching the title if he leaves Texas 8 points ahead of Vettel.

"We can always look for excuses," said Vettel. "Personally, I made mistakes, but the main problem was that the car did not have enough speed," he added. "It's one of the reasons why we had to take more risks."

Vettel also thanked his championship contender Lewis Hamilton for defending him amid recent criticism but said it's just part of the game.
