Haas F1 team principal draws ire of FIA after blasting stewards in Russia

Guenther Steiner thought his driver deserved a better fate in Sochi.

Hass F1 team principal Guenther Steiner may be in trouble with the FIA for criticizing the stewards in Russia.

The Haas team boss told Kevin Magnussen on the radio about a “stupid idiot steward” who penalized the Dane for the way he rejoined the Sochi track after an incident. The five-second penalty dropped Magnussen from eighth place to ninth place.

Still, the two points earned by Magnussen were the first for Magnussen and Haas in five races, dating back to the F1 German Grand Prix. Magunssen is 15th in the driver standings, while Haas is ninth out of 10 teams in the constructors’ chase.

According to Germany’s Motorsport-Magazin.com, the criticism has caught the attention of the FIA, which may now take action against Steiner.

“We’re all here to do our jobs, whether it’s the teams or the officials or anyone else,” race director Michael Masi said. “We have to have mutual respect.”

It is believed that Steiner could somehow be penalized for breaching the International Sporting Code in relation to bringing the FIA into disrepute.

“The FIA has its various judicial procedures,” Masi reportedly said. “If something inappropriate was said, the people in charge of these judicial processes who were not involved in the event can take a look.”
