Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr. express no lingering animosity from 2018 NASCAR season

Joey Logano says he’s fine with Martin Truex Jr. and Martin Truex Jr. says he’s fine with Joey Logano.

Time will tell if that holds true.

Things were a little tense between the two most recent Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champions following the final lap and bump-and-run at Martinsville Speedway in November. Logano moved Truex out of the way on the final corner and Truex vowed vengeance that never came.

Since then, Logano had the chance to move Truex out of the way two weeks ago at Richmond Raceway, but remained in his tracks in a 1-2 finish between the two.

After Martinsville, and following his championship at Homestead, Logano credits the move as giving him the momentum needed to win the Championship Race. He has no regrets on how he raced Truex, especially since it was only a bump-and-run where both finished 1-2, with both advancing to the championship.

"I have never had a problem with him so I guess that is his question to answer," Logano said. "We were racing there toward the end of (Richmond) and I didn’t feel like I got there in time to be able to make any moves …

"I needed a few laps to kind of set him up and catch some lap cars in the right spot and try to put him in the right spot to try to pass him. I needed about, instead of 400 laps 405 laps might have been the difference. I am sure there are plenty of times we can all say the same thing."

For his part, Truex has indicated there is no lingering animosity between the two but has since repeated that he will race the defending champion how they raced at Martinsville moving forward.

"I kind of know what to expect and you know — that's kind of that, "So no grudge really just, you know, maybe you think about things a little bit differently when we get around each other."

And that’s that.
