Spa WEC: #7 Toyota beats sister car to pole

Toyota’s #7 crew secured pole position for this weekend’s Spa FIA World Endurance Championship round, beating the championship-leading #8 car by almost half a second.

Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi’s average of 1m53.747s in the #7 TS050 Hybrid was 0.496s faster than the combined efforts of Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima in the #8 machine.

A late rain shower, followed by a red flag caused by the ByKolles LMP1 stopping along the start/finish straight, denied the #8 crew the chance to retaliate in the closing minutes.

Sergey Sirotkin and Egor Orudzhev secured third on the grid in the #17 SMP Racing BR Engineering BR1 ahead of the best of the Rebellion R-13s, the #3 car, in fourth.

G-Drive Racing took the top spot in LMP2 courtesy of the efforts of Jean-Eric Vergne and Roman Rusinov in the Aurus-branded Oreca, seventh overall.

GTE Pro pole went to Ford pair Harry Tincknell and Andy Priaulx, while TF Sport Aston Martin duo Salih Yoluc and Charlie Eastwood clinched top honours in GTE Am.
