G-Power BMW M850i With 661 HP Is The M8 Alternative

With 661 hp on tap, this might be even more powerful the upcoming M8.

The BMW M8 isn’t here quite yet, but impatient M850i owners can now give the grand tourer an extra bump in power thanks to the work of tuner G-Power. The firm’s upgrade kit pushes the 8 Series’ output to 661 horsepower (493 kW) and 656 pound-feet (890 Newton-meters) of torque, versus 523 hp (390 kW) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) in stock form from the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8.

After these upgrades, an M850i is able to sprint to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of roughly 199 mph (320 kph). In comparison, the stock coupe hits 62 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 kph).

G-Power charges 2,481 euros ($2,831 at current exchanges rates) for the updated engine software, and the improved stainless steel downpipes and catalytic converters are an additional 4,155 euros ($4,742). The code that boosts the top speed beyond the standard limit is an extra 500 euros ($570).

For an aesthetic upgrade, G-Power offers a set of its Hurricane forged wheels with five sets of double spokes. The 21-inch pieces are 9 inches wide in front and 10.5 inches wide at the back. They run 7,521 euros ($8,577) for a complete set.

When it arrives later in 2019, the M8 would use an upgraded version of the M850i’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8. It should at least the same 600 hp (447 kW) as the M5 but might even top the M5 Competition’s 617 hp (460 kW). Rumors suggest the M8 Competition could have around 630 hp (470 kW).
