Road Angel, specialists in designing speed limiter tools and dash cans, warns the tool will only advise drivers in a similar way to sat-navs. Spokesperson Andrew Digve said drivers will still be able to “completely miss” speed warnings if they decide to not listen to the warnings or turn off the devices when the new rule comes into effect..

Their comments come after speculation from Express readers that the new EU tool may see an end to speeding fines altogether.

However, the tool will only sound an audio or visual warning when speed limits are broken.

The tool can also be overridden by drivers meaning traditional penalties will still apply.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Digve said: “We get customers who do get caught speeding.

“It’s a lapse of attention at the end of the day as much as you have something there reminding you.

“Just like a sat nav when you turn left and you completely miss it.

“It’s one of those things.

“If your device or car says it’s a 30mph road, stay at 30, and you creep up to 33 or 34mph and suddenly there is a camera there and you do get caught speeding, they are still going to prosecute you.

“They are still going to give you the fine, they are still going to give you the points.

“You’ve still broken the law at the end of the day.

“Although they’ve just made it harder to break the law.

“It actually works in the driver’s favour in our opinion.
