1 millionth car rolls out of Volkswagen’s Pune plant

The 1 millionth car has rolled off Volkswagen’s production line at Chakan near Pune.

Production at Volkswagen’s Chakan plant began in March 2009. The Skoda Fabia was the first car that was built at this facility. The 1 millionth car to roll off the production line was an Ameo. Models like the Polo, Vento and Skoda Rapid also built at this factory. Cars built at the Volkswagen Pune plant are exported to more than 50 countries. 

The VW Group and Skoda are investing Rs. 8,000 crore for the India 2.0 project, with the latter taking charge of the Indian market on VW’s behalf. A Technology Centre has been setup in Pune for the development of vehicles designed for the Indian market. The carmaker is also developing the MQB A0 IN platform for its future models.
