Behold the most breathtaking sight you’re likely to see today: a heavily modified Ferrari 348 that looks like a reimagined and beefed-up F355. It is stunning.

It’s also just a render, for now. It will be the product of seemingly Paris-based concern Evoluto Automobili, which has announced grand plans to do for the slightly unloved 348 what Singer will do for a tatty old 911.

Given how much demand there is among Porsche collectors and enthusiasts for Singer-modified 911s, it’s amazing that no one has done something similar for Ferrari before now. At least, no one we know about.

Never mind that, though: just look at it. The donor 348 can barely be recognised beneath the extensive changes, most obvious of which are vast wheel arches, huge side air intakes, a bespoke but very F355-ish body kit and a neat little duck-tail spoiler than leaves us drooling. Carbonfibre skirts underpin all sides in tandem with an F355-inspired flat undertray and very 2019 diffuser for actual downforce.

In fact, the front splitter looks a lot like the one on the F12, while the rear LED lights that bear more than a passing resemblance to those of the GTC4Lusso. Whether that’s just for the renders or suggests that Evoluto Automobili will be buying actual Ferrari spares as part of the conversion, we don’t know. At least the pop-up headlights are present and correct.

The engine is not from the 348. That’d be a missed opportunity, right? After consulting its social media followers and potential customers, the decision was taken to swap the 300bhp, 3.4-litre Tipo F119 V8 out and replace it with the 400bhp, 3.6-litre Tipo F131 V8 from the Ferrari 360. The plan is now to tune it up to 500bhp.

Weight is targeted at just 1000kg so the 1.5-tonne 348 needs a serious crash-diet. More likely is an eventual revision of that plan – it seems a bit unrealistic.

Evoluto is still building its first prototype. We’re crossing our fingers that the ambitious build comes to fruition. Prices are based purely on speculation but Singer Porsches can top £1 million. We’d predict high-six figures for the Evoluto car, whose formal name seems yet to be decided. Once that vastly wealthy Great Uncle we never knew about dies and leaves us mountains of cash, we’ll be first in the queue.
