Porsche has announced that 911 GT2s will now be offered with the Clubsport package at no extra cost.

That brings a basic half roll cage, six-point harness for the driver and fire extinguisher in the passenger footwell. Additional options allow for an extended, full FIA-approved roll cage and an equally FIA-appropriate battery master switch.

The steel roll cage with bucket seats and harnesses

While the half roll cage bolts to the body of the car behind the two seats, the harness can only be attached to the standard GT2 RS seats or the full-fat racing buckets. The popular electrically-adjustable sports seats aren’t suitable.

Interestingly, the Clubsport package can be ordered alongside the weight-saving Weissach package. The latter’s horribly expensive titanium roll cage isn’t FIA-approved so gets dropped in favour of the Clubsport’s steel one, but then you have a pretty ideal track spec.

The Weissach package normally uses this titanium roll cage

The Weissach package’s Magnesium wheels save 11.5kg – almost the same as the 12kg penalty introduced by fitting the steel roll cage instead of the titanium one. Weissach trim accessories like the shift paddles and steering wheel inserts are lighter than standard, as is the carpet.

A Weissach- and Clubsport-equipped GT2 RS will be about 18kg lighter than the standard car instead of 30kg, but abandoning the titanium roll cage means the two packages roll in at £4000 less than the Weissach package alone.
