Rumour: Mahindra XUV800 electric SUV launch in July 2024

Both the models are part of Mahindra’s larger plan to launch eight new EVs in India by 2027.

Mahindra is all set to reveal five new concept electric SUVs this Independence Day. The line-up is expected to include an electric coupe SUV, which, along with the XUV800 is reportedly scheduled to go on sale in July 2024.

The XUV800 will essentially be an electric version of the XUV700. The report states that the new model will share the bodywork of the ICE version and will have an identical wheelbase as well.

Having said that, the XUV800 is expected to be based on a bespoke EV platform. It could be offered in single and dual-motor configurations. It has also been reported that the batteries for the electric SUV will be sourced from Volkswagen.

As part of the deal with Mahindra, Volkswagen will import prismatic cells from Germany and assemble the battery pack, BMS and other components locally at Mahindra’s Chakan plant.

Mahindra is also said to have lined-up an electric coupe SUV for 2024. Codenamed: M310, this model is likely to be an all-electric version of the upcoming XUV900 coupe SUV. The report states that the carmaker expects to sell 9,000 units of this EV in the first year of production.

Both the models are part of Mahindra’s larger plan to launch eight new EVs in India by 2027.
