Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman says NASCAR drivers are 'missing a few screws'

The National Football League is a heavy-contact, high-risk, high-reward sport. The same can be said of driving in NASCAR, although the risks can be much higher if something goes wrong.

The rewards are something that only the best in both sports can experience.

Autoweek asked Super Bowl LIII Most Valuable Player Julian Edelman of the New England Patriots to compare the two sports. Edelman was the honorary starter of Sunday’s 61st Daytona 500.

“I think these guys are absolutely insane, first and foremost,” Edelman said of NASCAR drivers. “These guys are going 200 miles an hour for over three hours straight and be able to focus in extreme conditions. The mental toughness and physical toughness to be able to go and perform for so long and be able to stay in-tune.
