BMW 3 Series Stealth Leads Purpose-Built Car Lineup For RETTmobil

It will be joined by a 2 Series Gran Tourer tailored to emergency medics and an X1 for operations command.

It’s that time of the year for BMW to be unveiling its purpose-built cars for the specialist trade fair RETTmobil held in Fulda, a city in Hesse, Germany. For the 19th edition of the event, the Bavarian brand has prepared a total of six tailor-made vehicles for fire services, emergency physicians, and the police. Leading the pack would have to be the all-new 3 Series Sedan in the 320d xDrive flavor.

Billed as being as a “stealth version” of the new 3er, the specialty vehicle comes with a bespoke signaling system featuring tone sequence and magnetic flashing light. The car is finished in Melbourne red metallic and has extra lights mounted at the edges of the kidney grilles.

It’s pretty much standard on the inside, save for the cup holder located on the center console on the driver’s side. It’s no longer usable as the space is now occupied by a module incorporating the switches to control the lights and siren. BMW mentions the driver and front passenger will be comfortable while at work thanks to heated sports seats with lumbar support, along with goodies like the Professional business package, LED headlights, parking sensors, and even a leather-wrapped M steering wheel.

Being based on the 320d xDrive sedan, the so-called 3 Series Stealth version uses a turbodiesel 2.0-liter engine with 190 horsepower (140 kilowatts) and 295 pound-feet (400 Newton-meters) of torque channeled to an all-paw setup through an automatic transmission. It does the 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) job in 6.9 seconds and tops out at 145 mph (233 kph).

The 3 Series Sedan will be joined at RETTmobil 2019 by an X1 of the xDrive18d variety specifically built for operations command. The posh crossover will boast a special body wrap and two blue LED flashers at the front and rear. BMW’s smallest high-riding model has also gained a signaling system along with an additional battery necessary to power all the extra hardware.

The 2 Series minivan in the seven-seat Gran Tourer flavor will also be attending the show as a purpose-built MPV for emergency medics. Aside from the new livery, the people-mover has been fitted with blue flashers up front and blue & yellow flashers at the back on the tailgate. Other items added to the 220d xDrive Gran Tourer include a charger for two vehicle batteries, a steel partition grid, and dual 12V sockets.

BMW will have these three vehicles on display at RETTmobil beginning tomorrow until Friday. Attendees will also be able to check out the i8 Tune It! Safe! police vehicle, an X3 xDrive20d for emergency medics, and the fire-service version of the F 750 GS motorcycle.
