Vehicles Affected: Approximately 106,000 model-year 2016-19 BMW X1 SUVs
The Problem: In the event of a crash where the occupants’ head contacts the B-pillar, the pillar may not absorb an adequate amount of the impact, increasing the risk of injury.
The Fix: The remedy is still under development.
What Owners Should Do: BMW is expected to begin notifying owners July 2. Owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
