Vehicles Affected: Approximately 12,600 model-year 2018-19 Audi Q5 and SQ5 SUVs
The Problem: The brake master cylinder casting may be too short, which can cause a sudden loss of brakes, increasing the risk of crash.
Audi manufacturer Volkswagen noted that the electronic parking brake and its emergency brake function are not affected and will still function.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect the brake master cylinder, replacing it as necessary for free.
What Owners Should Do: Audi began notifying owners May 3. Owners can call the automaker at 800-253-2834, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
