It’s been a busy day on the floor of Cobo Center in downtown Detroit. Friday, March 1 is the opening day of the 67th Annual Meguiar’s Detroit Autorama Presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts, which means that by the end of the day on Thursday, the approximately 850 hot rods, custom cars, custom trucks, street machines, lowriders, and racecars, muscle cars, and vehicles of every other descirption have to be in place and ready for the show.
Many of these vehicles had already shown up by Wednesday, but showing up is only the first step. Exhibitors have to prepare their display area, laying down flooring or carpet, putting up stanchions, setting up lights and videos and signage and build books—followed by hours of last day detailing to ensure that their rides will be as perfect as possible when the public rushes in on Friday morning.
STREET RODDER has been on site already covering the Detroit Autorama for more than 24 hours. You can view our earliest photos and videos of Wednesday’s earliest activity here- 2019 Detroit Autorama: Your Behind The Scenes Pre-Show First Look. On Thursday, we stayed busy hiking the floor of Cobo Center, talking to car owners and builders, promoters and vendors. We’ve also been busy making preliminary selections for our awards, namely the STREET RODDER Top 100 presented by Painless Performance Parts and the Best Ford In A Ford presented by Ford Performance.
On Friday, the judges will announce the eight vehicles they have selected as Great 8 finalists for the most prestigious award of the weekend: The Ridler Award. That winner will be announced on Sunday afternoon. We will be here for every minute of the Detroit Autorama, sharing it with you. Don’t go away.
