The latest Ford F-150 Raptor is quite nice on its own, but some will point out an obvious flaw – the lack of a V8 engine option. See, the F-150 Raptor comes with a 3.5 litre EcoBoost that makes 450 hp, which is plenty for some and “cute” for others.
For those associated with the latter, the good people at Hennessey Performance (HPE) have “heard their cries and answered their prayers” with the 2019 Hennessey VelociRaptor V8.
Not to be confused with the six-wheeler or the turbocharged models that also bear the ‘VelociRaptor’ name, HPE’s latest creation is exactly as it sounds. The team takes a standard F-150 Raptor, removes its EcoBoost V6 and slots in a Ford-sourced 5.0 litre V8 engine.
Knowing the way HPE operates, the engine then gets a 2.9 litre supercharger bolted on and boosted to seven psi, so the engine now makes 758 hp. All other necessary items like a Ford 10-speed automatic transmission, wiring harnesses, ECUs, and others, are part of the engine swap routine.
Performance-wise, the VelociRaptor V8 will complete the 0-96 km/h (0-60 mph) sprint in 4.1 seconds. “We are so excited to introduce our VelociRaptor V8 – the first and only V8-powered Gen 2 Ford Raptor,” said company founder and CEO, John Hennessey.
“Our customers have been begging for a V8 option for their new Raptors since the truck first came out in early 2017. We heard their calls and are so pleased to meet this need in the market. The sound of the VelociRaptor V8 is so worth it!”
Also included in the conversion package are VelociRaptor bumpers, LED front lights, Stage 2 off-road suspension, six-inch lift kit, 20-inch alloys wrapped with 37-inch BF Goodrich KM03 off-road tyres, as well as dedicated badges, embroidery, and plaques.
The cost of one is USD147,950 (RM619,096), which includes the price of the standard truck and a three-year warranty. HPE will only be making 100 units of the VelociRaptor V8 for the 2019 model year.
