Hyundai recently redesigned its Sonata sedan, but the Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid stayed in the last generation. Now it’s the hybrid’s turn. The fully redesigned sedan made its debut at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show.

Hyundai estimates the model could get up to 52 mpg combined — better than the outgoing model. That’s also in line with the Toyota Camry Hybrid’s EPA figures and better than the Honda Accord Hybrid’s numbers.
Power comes from a revised version of the previous 2.0-liter gasoline direct-injection four-cylinder engine, which makes 150 horsepower and 139 pounds-feet of torque. It’s mated to an electric motor that puts out 51 hp and 151 pounds-feet of torque via a six-speed automatic transmission. That gives the car a net system output of 192 hp.
Other highlights include a new grille with active aerodynamic flaps, aerodynamic wheels and a solar roof system used for battery charging — the latter of which is only available on the top trim level, however.
