How much is a three-pointed star worth to you? If you’re shopping for a new 2022 Mercedes EQS, this inquiry is probably a fundamental part of your process, if not the end-all and be-all of it. After all, this isn’t merely another electric luxury sedan, like the Lucid Air or Tesla Model S. It’s the Mercedes of electric luxury sedans, and there’s both the intangible brand equity and the more tangible equipment on hand to weigh.
But let’s answer the question before presenting the credentials of the EQS. The EQS is offered with two powertrains: The single-motor EQS450+, and the dual-motor EQS580 4Matic. And each of these is offered in three trim levels: Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle—much the same as the 2022 C-Class, which pioneered the new trim arrangement for Mercedes.
The lowliest EQS is the rear-wheel-drive 450+ Premium, and it will set you back $103,360. At this trim level, there’s no MBUX Hyperscreen (instead, a 12.8-inch OLED infotainment screen takes its place), but 20-inch wheels and a Burmester sound system are standard.
The next step up is the 580 4Matic Premium, at $120,160. While it features the same 108-kWh battery pack as the 450+, its dual-motor setup provides all-wheel drive, as well as a stout 516 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque. It upgrades to 21-inch wheels, but from a content perspective, it is otherwise similar to its same-trim 450+ counterpart.
Stepping up to the Exclusive trim nets some additional goodies, like a head-up display, four-zone climate control, quick-heating and massaging front seats, and more, as well as an attendant price increase: $106,760 and $123,560, respectively.
Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line Pinnacle adds power rear seats, a fancy rear armrest with wireless charging functionality, heated and ventilated rear seats, and additional USB-C charging ports. If you’ll be spending a lot of time in the rear seat, perhaps with a chauffeur up front, this is the trim to get. As you’d expect, with the extra stuff comes an extra cost: $109,560 and $126,360, respectively.
All EQS models will come with 30 minutes of free DC fast charging on the Electrify America network for 24 months after purchase, too. The EQS, in all its variations, hits American dealerships this fall.
