The 992 Porsche 911 line-up has been expanded again to now include the new Carrera 4 Coupe and Carrera 4 Cabriolet, which are essentially the base Carrera models but with the sure-footedness of an all-wheel drive system.
Both the Carrera 4 cars are powered by a 3.0 litre twin-turbo flat-six petrol engine, which develops 385 PS (380 hp) at 6,500 rpm – 15 PS (15 hp) more than the previous 991-generation cars – and 440 Nm of torque from 1,950 to 5,000 rpm.
The mill is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission and an all-wheel drive system as mentioned earlier, with the latter benefit from developments found in the more powerful Carrera 4S models. The front axle drive’s clutch and differential are water-cooled and are reinforced to increase durability and load capacity, with Porsche Traction Management (PTM) ensuring optimum traction on snow, as well as in wet and dry conditions.
In terms of performance, the coupe version of the Carrera 4 will get from zero to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, or four seconds flat when specified with the optional Sport Chrono Package. Meanwhile, the convertible model takes 4.4 seconds to complete the century sprint (4.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package). The top speed for the Carrera 4 Coupe is 291 km/h and 289 km/h for the Carrera 4 Cabriolet.
Other driving-related systems include Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronically variable damping system with Normal and Sport modes, as well as Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a fully variable, electronically controlled limited slip rear differential.
Stopping power is provided by ventilated and perforated grey cast-iron brake rotors measuring 330 mm with black-painted four-piston calipers, which can be upgraded to the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) for an additional cost.
Visually, the Carrera 4 models do not look dramatically different from the rest of the 911 range, with the only visual distinction from the Carrera 4S cars being the exhaust openings. On the Carrera 4, these are rectangular-shaped outlets on each side, while the Carrera 4S has a set of twin-tailpipes instead. With the optional Sport Exhaust system (available for all models), there are two oval tailpipes instead.
Standard equipment include staggered wheel sizes, with those at the front measuring 19-inches (with 235/40 series tyres), while the rear gets 20-inch units (with 295/35 series tyres). The interior remains familiar to those who have seen the 992-gen cars, with a five-circle instrument cluster and the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with a 10.9-inch touchscreen.
The Carrera 4 models are slated to each German dealers from the end of October this year, with pricing starting from 112,509 euros (RM518,528) for the coupe and 126,789 euros (RM584,341) for the cabriolet.
