A couple of weeks ago, I went to Japan to see how Toyota builds the car at the top of their vast product line: the Century. We’ll see more about that soon enough, but here’s a gallery of some of the black-and-white police vehicles I noticed in between riding in the Century and shopping for scale models of police vans.
The surprising thing about Japanese police vehicles is the number of kei vans you’ll see; getting unwilling arrestees into a Daihatsu Hijet might be comedic, and a kei van can’t chase anything much faster than a Super Cub, but you can’t beat a kei when it comes to squeezing into the tight alleyways of a Japanese city.
