The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released sales and production figures for the month of April 2019, and the strong performance in March could not be replicated last month.
A total of 49,964 vehicles were delivered in April, a drop of 4,812 units or 8.8% from the 54,776 vehicles recorded in the previous month. The performance was however 6.2% higher than the corresponding period last year, when 47,047 vehicles were sold.
The year-to-date total industry volume (TIV) numbers for the first four months of the year stands at 193,028 units, which is 5.7% higher than the 182,157 units managed during the same period last year.
According to the association, the reason for the higher sales in March was due to the rush for deliveries by car companies having their financial year ending on March 31. It also said that things were softer in April because consumers were waiting for Hari Raya festive season promotions. As such, it expects the May volume to be higher now that promotional campaigns are underway.
