Aston Martin DBS 59 Edition debuts – 24 units only!

Aston Martin has introduced the special edition DBS 59, and it’s limited to just 24 units. Every unit will be made to order, courtesy of Q by Aston Martin, and all 24 examples are built based on the DBS Superleggera. The project honours the brand’s historic 1-2 finish in the DBR1 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with each car representing one hour of the iconic victory, in which Roy Salvadori and Caroll Shelby took the chequered flag ahead of the sister car piloted by Maurice Trintignant and Paul Frére.

This particular example is finished in Aston Martin Racing Green, complete with glossy carbon-fibre roof and strakes. Bronze is used for details such as the Superleggera badging, radiator grille outline, brake callipers and the 21-inch Y-spoke satin dual-tone alloy wheels. Additional details include the individually numbered roundel that’s painted on the fender, as well as an arrow decal on the tyre wall.

For the cabin, things get a bit more snazzy. The original seats from the DBS Superleggera are retained, but this two-toned leather (Obsidian Black and Chestnut Tan) seats feature some of the original weave pattern from the DBR1. Bronze is used here as well, particularly for the shit paddles and bespoke ’59 Edition’ logo embroidered on the seatback. Replicas of the iconic 1959 blue race suits, heritage racing helmet and Carroll Shelby’s race gloves are included as well.

Mechanically, the DBS 59 Edition is unchanged. It features a 5.2 litre biturbo V12 engine that produces 715 hp at 6,500 rpm and 900 Nm of torque, and it’s mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The zero to 100 km/h sprint is done in 3.4 seconds, while top speed is rated at 340 km/h, at which 180 kg of downforce is produced by the bodywork.

Aston Martin boss for Q and VIP sales, Simon Lane said: “The DBS 59 strikes a careful balance between a timeless design that respects our history and a modern take that celebrates our future. The DBS Superleggera is the most powerful production car ever produced by Aston Martin and so it is fitting that the ‘DBS 59’ special editions have been commissioned to mark sixty years since our iconic 1-2 win at Le Mans.”

The ‘DBS 59’ follows on from the success of other ‘Q by Aston Martin’ commissions including the Red Arrows Edition Vanquish S, the Cygnet V8 and the North Coast 500 series of six DB11 GTs.
