Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo to debut at Frankfurt

For all Gran Turismo fans out there, Bugatti has answered your prayers. The company has released the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo concept for Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 6 video game. It’s basically digital renderings of the car as of now, but it certainly looks menacing.

But wait, this is the clincher. Apparently, a real life-size version is going to be on display at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show as well. Now, how cool is that? According to Bugatti, “the design of the virtual race car is about celebrating Bugatti’s racing history and is based on state-of-the-art motor sport technology.”

“The Bugatti design team normally works only for the exclusive and very distinguished circle of the brand’s customers. Now Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo has given us the opportunity, for the first time, to do something special for our fans as well,” explained Achim Anscheidt, the head of Bugatti Design.

“When the target group suddenly grows from 450 Veyron owners to several million fans, gamers and high performance aficionados, it is a very exciting matter. We had a lot of fun with this project,” he added.

The company also adds that this project is a tribute to its great racing tradition in the 1920s and 1930s and its victories in Le Mans 24-hour races in 1937 and 1939 as well. Bugatti believes that the virtual car is supposed to look “unmistakably like a Bugatti”, and more importantly, every part of the vehicle should have a real function.

“In the Bugatti Veyron, we have developed a super sports car which unites two characteristics, the beauty and the beast,” explained Anscheidt. “The Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo embodies the performance beast. It has a more radical and extreme style. This is a thorough-bred Bugatti for the virtual race track, not for the street,” he explained.

Sporting Bugatti’s traditional ‘horse shoe front grille’, it sits at the centre of the central front air intake and supports the structure between the wings and the aerodynamic front splitter. Its eight-eyed headlights are a real showstopper, and apparently, they were designed specifically for the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo.

Bugatti also points out that the centre fin, which originated from the iconic Type 57 Atlantic from 1936, and the ones on the front and rear wings not only contribute to the overall appearance of the car, but are more importantly a catalyst towards the vehicle’s dynamic stability.

The NACA air intake on the roof, in its light blue finish, also provides aerodynamic stability on top and at the rear of the car that complements the efficacy of the rear wing too. The car’s prominent trailing edge ensures that longitudinal dynamic stability is its greatest beneficiary.
