Car tax is a requirement of all motorists on the roads in Britain.
Drivers must have valid vehicle excise duty (VED) when driving on the roads in Britain and can be fined for failing to have it.
A Gov campaign launched earlier this year was to crack down on the number of motorists without tax.
Since the campaign launched in January 9,000 untaxed vehicles have been clamped.
DVLA enforcement officers have been targeting motorists trying to dodge road tax over the past few months.
Motorists in major hotspots including London, Northern Ireland, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow were targeted.
Drivers can have their vehicles clamped and land hefty fines for not having valid VED.
Bethan Beasley, DVLA’s senior leader of enforcement partnerships, said: “As well as the hard work we’re doing out on the roads every day, we’re running local advertising in each of the regions including radio, printed publications, poster sites, websites and on social media.
“All of these activities together are designed to make the driving public think again if they’re considering not taxing their vehicle.”
The number of drivers without valid car tax has increase since the abolition of the tax disc in 2014.
If you’re unsure about when your car tax is due then then you can visit the gov.uk website and enter your vehicle registration number.
Car tax can be renewed pay by direct debit every six months, year or in monthly instalments.
The easiest way to tax your vehicle is online at the gov.uk website.
Ahead of tax being due, the DVLA will send you a V11 letter with details you’ll need to pay tax.
Motorists can be fined £1,000 for driving an untaxed vehicle and even have your car clamped.
DVLA car tax rates are set to increase on April 1st which can cost up to £65 more.
