Classic car insurance experts at Quotezone claim historic vehicles are generally “well cared for” but warned drivers can better protect their car with simple precautions. However, Quotezone warned classic cars “tend to be driven fewer miles” which reduces the risk of crashes.
Classic cars are usually only driven on weekends and on occasional road trips unlike the usual usage of a day-to-day vehicle.
Although this reduces the risk of suffering any damage and claiming on a policy, drivers are still warned to take measures to protect their vehicles.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Greg Wilson, founder of Quotezone said owners spend a “considerable amount of money” on their vehicles and usually ensure their models are looked after.
He said: “Owning a classic car is a great past-time, and enthusiasts often spend a considerable amount of money to purchase or restore these vehicles so it should come as no surprise that they tend to be well cared for.
“Most classic car owners keep these motors in a garage, or failing that on their private driveway, which can help to reduce the risk of an insurance claim.
“They also tend to be driven fewer miles than modern cars, which again reduces the likelihood of an accident occurring.
“Of course, no matter where you store your classic car, and no matter how many miles you clock behind the wheel, it’s still important to shop around.”
Insurance firms are likely to offer you a discount if they know your car is safe and secure and not likely to be damaged.

Experts at Holts Auto said brick garages offer the “very best protection” for classic cars.
Not only are garages secure and harder for thieves to break into, it can also protect your car from weather damage.
They warn drivers who cannot store their car anywhere inside should at least cover their car with a tarpaulin and lift the car off the ground.
This will protect your cars tyres, wheels and undercarriage form rain and moisture which can lead to damage and cause drivers to claim on their policy.
Go Compare warns classic car insurance policies can be cheaper than a standard policy.
They say insurers recognise these vehicles had lower speeds and simpler mechanics than modern cars which can reduce the value of any damage.
Go Compare says drivers are also well known to look after their vehicles which could reward them with lower costs.
However, they warn drivers can lower their classic car insurance by following a range of simple measures.
They warn limiting mileage is a simple way all drivers can reduce costs as this cuts down the likelihood of drivers suffering an accident.
Fitting a modern immobiliser or tracking device can act as a deterrent for thieves and can also act as a way to recover your car if it is stolen.
Go Compare says some insurance firms will see joining an official car club as evidence of your dedication to taking care of your car.
