Cleaning your car can be an arduous chore if you decide to do it at home. Even if you decide to use a dedicated car wash it can still be a faff and it may be a task that is not a priority to you. However, there is a very good reason why you should aim to keep your car clean all year round. This is because you could actually be fined if it is dirty. Firstly, the windscreen and windows must be clean and clear so you have a view of the road ahead.
If your view is obstructed you could be given a fixed penalty notice fine.
Drivers must also display their number plates correctly at all time and mustn’t obscure them in any way.
If your number plate is dirty or not display properly you could be handed a £1,000 fine.
What’s more, you could also fail your MOT test as a result. It is a requirement for police forces to be able to read your number plate at all time.
They must also be clean so that they can be recognised and understood by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras
ANPR is used to check to see if a car is taxed, stolen or insured.
The RAC said: “You’re late for an engagement or just need to pop to the shops in the car – but it’s covered in snow and ice.
“The bottom line is you need a clear view of the road before setting off, you can’t make any shortcuts.”
