Dodge garnered more Facebook “Love” reactions than any other brand last year.
Dodge is well-known as a high-performance brand. The metrics they usually like to be measured in typically revolve around horsepower and quarter mile times. Now, they’re boasting about something completely different: according to Facebook, Dodge is the most loved car brand.
That seems like a bizarre metric to measure, but what it’s actually referring to is the number of heart reactions to Dodge’s posts. Throughout the course of 2018, across 408 posts, Dodge tallied up 461,187 total “love” reactions. Their closest competitor, Mercedes-Benz, racked up just 382,629 reactions. That’s quite a commanding lead.
It turns out that Facebook users love muscle cars, and the top five most loved posts reflect that, focusing on Dodge’s current crop of muscle cars as well as historic favorites. What’s even more telling is that all of this engagement was racked up over just 408 posts. That’s an important takeaway for other brands’ social media teams – quality beats quantity every time.
The single most loved post by Dodge last year, titled “Respect the beast,” was a video prominently featuring the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye. A sinister-sounding voiceover touts the Hellcat’s performance in vague terms while the car’s supercharger whine and exhaust note punctuate his points in the background.
Dodge also excelled at engaging with their audience of owners and enthusiasts. A photo of a black Challenger with subtle, matte black racing stripes, sent to Dodge by a proud owner, became the fifth most loved post of last year when Dodge shared the image with the caption “Muscle redefined.”
The social media team at Dodge have combined humor, engagement, and good old fashioned American muscle to become a brand that Facebook users really identify with. Other manufacturers are taking note, and we should see more brands following their lead this year.
