One road user has complained they have lost up to 10 miles per gallon since the new fuel was introduced last September. Another claimed they have lost around four miles per gallon since using the new petrol and have already switched to a different compound.

Others still refuse to touch the new petrol, instead opting to “stick” with an old E5.

Express reader ‘jacksdad’ claimed: “E10 ‘eco fuel’ may be more friendly to the environment, but certainly not fuel system and engine friendly on many not so old vehicles.

“MPG is reduced for many compatible vehicles (eg 2017 Mini Cooper) by around 4mpg in our case, regular long trip London to Northumberland.

“It is cheaper overall to buy the higher RON ratings such as Synergy and V Power, this returns the quoted MPG figures for the mini and it runs better.”

Express reader ‘cranza1’ added: “The car engine runs more inefficiently and it reduces mpg by up to 10 mpg.

“Just buy the super unleaded.”

‘Angry Engineer’ said: “I’ll be looking after my engine and sticking with high-quality E5 fuel thanks.”

Express reader ‘FirstClass’ has even reported some issues with his vehicle since using the new compound

“No torque, no power, no b****y good.”

‘John19’ added: “Trouble is all these green initiatives are rather knee jerk driven and not thought through to the conclusion.”

Special media users have also taken to platforms to attack the new compound.
