BMW Malaysia recently introduced two new variants to the local G30 5 Series range, those being the 520i Luxury and 530e M Sport, priced at RM329k and RM339k respectively. The pair joins the 530i M Sport and 530e Sport in the line-up.
In short, the 520i Luxury is powered by a B48 2.0 litre petrol engine, delivering 184 hp and 290 Nm of torque. Drive is channeled to the rear wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, enough to propel it from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds.
Equipment-wise, it gets the Chrome Line exterior, which adorns the kidney grille surrounds, fog lamps surrounds and air breathers with the shiny bits, while sitting on 18-inch wheels. Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with BMW Selective Beam and LED fog lights, sports seats with Dakota leather upholstery, Sensatec dashboard (first model to get locally), sport leather steering wheel, and 11-colour ambient lighting system.
On the other hand, the 530e M Sport shares the same petrol engine as the 520i Luxury, albeit augmented with an electric motor to produce a total system output 252 hp and 420 Nm of torque. It sprints from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds before topping out at 235 km/h.
Being the sportier variant of the two, it gets the customary M Sport treatment with gloss black exterior highlights, 19-inch M light multispoke alloy wheels, Night Blue Dakota leather upholstery, as well as Aluminium Rhombicle trimmings and a leather-wrapped centre console. Other M bits include a fatter steering wheel, M illuminated door sill finishers and M-specific pedals.
Both new 5 Series variants come with BMW Malaysia’s latest five-year Unlimited Mileage Warranty, Free Scheduled Service Programme and a two-year BMW Tyre Warranty Programme for its run-flat tyre offering and services. So, which of the two would you get?
