FIRST DRIVE: Range Rover Velar P250 R-Dynamic

Launched in Malaysia in April 2018, the Range Rover Velar sits between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport in Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia’s line-up. With price starting just north of RM500k, the Velar can be had with a P250 or P380 powertrain, the latter being the star of this video review.

In this guise, an Ingenium 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine churns out 250 PS and 365 Nm, which is sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission and onto the road with the help of an all-wheel drive system. Land Rover’s Terrain Response system also comes as standard, offering six separate modes depending on the surface condition you’re driving over.

Even with its off-road capabilities, the Velar is still a luxury SUV with plenty of amenities on the inside. These include the InControl Navigation Pro infotainment system that is paired with the Touch Pro Duo interface, the latter featuring two 10-inch touchscreens for you to interface with.

Those aren’t the only screens in the cabin either, as there’s also the Interactive Driver Display represented by a 12.3-inch screen within the instrument binnacle. Additionally, smaller screens within the circular dials and steering wheel controls only present themselves when the car is started, with contextual awareness. As you can see, the rest of the cabin is awash with premium materials too.

However, what is the Velar like to drive and more importantly, is its price tag justifiable? Well, Hafriz Shah is on hand to share his thoughts on the attractive SUV in our video review, so go ahead and give it a watch. Don’t forget to share your thoughts and comments about the Velar below. Happy watching.
