Five most popular used cars in the UK listed including Ford, BMW and Nissan

Gumtree share their top tips for buying second-hand cars

The UK’s five most popular used cars according to search results have been uncovered with Kia, Nissan and Ford leading the way.

A study by car finance refund experts Undisclosed.co.uk conducted the study after analysing Google search results for second-hand vehicles.

The findings are likely to help buyers and sellers.

Ben Snape, director at Undisclosed.co.uk said: “When we consider the car brands people are searching for the most, the searches put Ford in the lead, followed by Audi and BMW.

“This peek into consumer search trends offers a great insight for those looking to sell their own vehicle, and whether there is likely to be a demand for it.”

Kia Sportage

The findings revealed the Kia Sportage was the most in-demand used car with a massive 33,970 searches. The Sportage was also the most Googled second-hand vehicle in 38 out of the 58 UK cities analysed, including Glasgow, Birmingham and Liverpool.

Snape added: “Taking a look at these figures, it’s quite fascinating to see that the Kia Sportage is the used car model grabbing the attention of most UK buyers, despite being more pricey than some of the hatchbacks on the list.”

According to the AA, used Sportages start from £18,500 but newer models can rise over £30,000.

Nissan Qashqai

Another SUV, Nissan’s Qashqai is a slightly cheaper option with many models available for under £10,000. The Qashqai was the most searched vehicle in eight cities across the country including Leicester, Newcastle and Portsmouth.

The roomy interior and spacious boot make this a popular option among families. Meanwhile, the machine is also very fuel efficient with some of the older models even capable of up to 62 miles per gallon.

Ford Fiesta

According to the DVLA, the Fiesta is the most registered car on UK roads despite production coming to an end over the summer. However, after almost 50 years, the machine has earned its right to cult status and is likely to be popular among motorists for years to come.

The vehicle was most searched for in four areas including Edinburgh and Coventry. Data from Parkers shows older models can be picked up for just over £1,000 making this one of the most affordable options on the list.

BMW 1 Series

For something a little bit sporty, motorists have flocked to the BMW 1 Series Hatchback. Some of the newer models are capable of 335bhp and can reach 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.

Search terms were highest in Derby, Southampton and Manchester but costs could put many off with models still close to £10,000.

Audi A1

Older versions of the A1 can be picked up for between £2,000 and £5,000 making this a genuinely affordable option for petrolheads. The Audi offers something a little bit more powerful at a cheap price tag with a top speed of over 120mph.
