Ford has released some new details about its forthcoming electric SUV which will launch later this year.
At the firm’s Go Further event in Europe, which detailed its ambition to incorporate electrification into its range, the company released some details about the new electric car.
Steven Armstrong, Chairman, Ford of Europe said that the event was “one of the most significant moments of Ford of Europe’s recent history”.
The reason for this was because the firm was sharing its “vision of electrification” and how “it fits in our broader vision of smart vehicles in a smart world.”
Among the 16 electrified vehicles the carmaker is set to unveil it will have revealed eight of them by the end of the year.
Perhaps the most anticipated of the bunch is the Mustang-inspired SUV.
“It’s one of the most thrilling technologically advanced products we have ever created,” said Armstrong at the event.
“This is one of those cars that will come along once in your career if you’re lucky.
“This car change everything”
He described it as a vehicle for the ‘serious battery head’ which will ‘capture the imagination and raise the pulse.’
“Our Mustang inspired all-electric performance SUV will be electrifying in every way. Exciting to look at, thrilling to drive and this thing will really go like hell.”
Electric cars are known for their rapid acceleration due to the instant torque available due to there being no gearbox and with Mustang DNA, this vehicle is expected to be rapid.
The most interesting revelation about the car, however, was that it will have a range of up to 600km (370-miles) WLTP.
“It will redefine what is possible from an electric vehicle delivering one of the highest ranges in the world based on the WLTP guidelines,” added Armstrong.
He also added that the car will configure itself around you’ which ‘responds to you, and it even predicts your needs,’ alluding to an advanced voice system integration.
If achieved and affordable this could be an extremely popular vehicle. Ford is late to the game with electrification but at least it is aiming to make a statement with the new EV.
