Ford UK: Fiesta model tops new and used car sales lists after successful 2019

Impressive sales for Ford’s popular Fiesta model helped the American car giant secure the highest sales of any marquee on the second-hand AA Cars site. Ford’s popular Fiesta picked up further awards across the car market in a bumper year for the model.

The vehicle was the most popular car purchased under finance according to car group Close Brothers in another big win for the brand.

SMMT data also reveals the Ford Fiesta is on course to become the best selling new car of 2019 as year-to-date figures put the machine 19,000 sales ahead of its nearest rival with just one month of figures left to calculate.

Used Cars

AA Cars figures show the Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Focus remained popular in 2019 and were the second and third most popular buys of the year.

The two models have battled for the runner-up spot every year since 2015 and continue to hold strong in the UK market.

The Vauxhall Astra and Nissan Qashqai finished just behind while the premium used car market boomed with the success of the Mercedes C-Class and A-Class models.

Vauxhall’s relatively brand new Mokka entered the top 10 list for the first time as it beat off competition from the popular Fiat 500 and Volkswagen Polo which completed the list.

James Fairclough, CEO of AA Cars said: “The presence of cars such as the Mokka in the rankings shows that second-hand buyers are enjoying the benefits of much newer cars without the same price tag as a brand new vehicle.

“Their sales are boosted by the availability of car finance in the used car market, which has made it easier for drivers to upgrade to these nearly-new models.”

Hyundai’s Tucson SUV was the fastest-selling car on the site in 2019 for the second consecutive year.

The model often spent the shortest time on the AA Cars site before being snapped up by interested buyers. However, the car did not do enough to make it onto the overall best sellers list.

Other fastest-selling models include the BMW 116, Mercedes GLA and Kia Sportage in a list dominated by SUV designs.

New Cars

The Ford Fiesta is currently topping the SMMT new car sales figures for 2019 and looks set to win the award once again.

The Fiesta has topped the list consecutively over the past few years and is almost 20,000 sales ahead of their nearest rival with just one month left to declare.

The data reveals over 73,000 Fiesta models have been sold in 2019 as Ford has three models in the top 10 after further success with their Focus and Kuga machines.

The Volkswagen Golf and Vauxhall Corsa are the second and third most sold new cars of 2019 while the Mercedes Benz A-Class performed well to enter the top five.

Tesla’s Model 3 was the third most sold car in August 2019 in a shock appearance on the SMMT’s sale list.

However, the new vehicle could not carry the same form throughout the year and has so far failed to make the count of top-selling vehicles this year.

Overall new car sales figures are currently down 2.7 percent year-on-year after a dramatic drop in the sale of diesel vehicles in 2019.

Finance

Close Brothers Motor Finance also revealed the Ford Fiesta as their most popular car of 2019.

The model topped the list after it pipped the equally impressive Volkswagen Golf.

Other popular cars financed in 2019 include the Audi A3, Vauxhall Insignia and Volkswagen Polo.

The group said smaller models have been swept off the showroom this year as buyers looked towards affordable and greener models.

Experts at the firm say they expect to see electric vehicles in a much higher demand in 2020 as their recent Britain under the Bonnet report revealed two in five were considering switching to electric for their next purchase.
