RapidKL has announced that four of its bus corridors will go cashless from today. The four zones are Cheras, Sungai Besi and Jalan Klang Lama, involving all the routes in these areas. This follows the Ampang zone going cashless on April 15. MRT feeder buses have gone cashless since February.

What this means is that RapidKL buses will no longer accept cash as fares, but only electronic cards. Passengers will have to pay either using a Touch n Go card or the Rapid KL Unlimited Pass (My100 and My50). TnG card users will be entitled to 20% off the normal bus fares.

Under the cashless system, students, senior citizens and the disabled will still get to enjoy half priced fares, but these groups are required to apply for the MyRapid Touch n Go Concession Card.

Passengers tap their card when boarding and tap again before getting off the bus. Those who do not have a TnG card can purchase one on the bus – the card will cost RM10 with preloaded credit of RM4.80.

The cashless payment system will be rolled out in stages, and four more areas are set to go cashless next month. Click on the images above for more details.
