China gets yet another plug-in hybrid SUV.
The PHEV (plug-in hybrid vehicle) version of the Geely Binyue, an SUV model that went on sale on October 31, 2018, is said to head the market at the end of May or in early June, according to a local media outlet.
It will the first PHEV model based on Geely’s BMA (B-segment Modular Architecture) platform. According to photos disclosed by the automaker, the Binyue PHEV’s exterior displays a great resemblance to the existing fuel-burning version, while adopting two-tone car body and 18-inch dual-five-spoke wheel hubs.
The NEV SUV/Crossover gets a charging port on the front fender. At the rear end, a “PHEV” lettering indicates its different powertrain with vehicles driven by a combustion engine. The interior features quite a similar style to the outgoing model. However, the old mechanical gear lever is replaced with an all-new electronic one that delivers more futuristic sense. Powering the new PHEV is a plug-in hybrid system that consists of a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a ternary lithium battery pack, churning out a total output up to 190kW and 415N·m of torque peak. The powering system is mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. In the EV-only mode, the vehicle has a range of 60km. The 0-100km/h can be done within 6.9 seconds.
