Late into the evening of March 4, 2022, Dave Cole—owner of Hammerking Productions—announced that he and his company would be splitting from the Ultra4 (U4) Racing Series, effective immediately. According to that same email, Hammerking and Cole would retain ownership of the King of the Hammers, Ultra4 Europe, and the Great American Short Course (GAS) series, which started in 2021 as a replacement for the now defunct Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORS).
Not much other information was released as some details are still being hammered out—no pun intended—the email did mention some reassurances for the racers. First, the King of the Hammers will continue and will still serve as the first race of the Ultra4 series season. This also means that anyone who’s racing in Ultra4 will continue to qualify for the KOH. The United States Auto Club (USAC) will still serve as the sanctioning body and race operations, serving as arbiter between U4 and Hammerking.
The Robinetts
“I am excited to see what (Jason and Gayla Robinett) and their team can bring to the series,” Cole said in the email, “They have incredible plans for the future and have already built a world class facility in Oklahoma.” The Robinetts own and operate MidAmerica Outdoors, a 1,600 acre, privately owned off-road park in Jay, Ok, that features an off-road short course track, off-road vehicle trails, a dirt drag strip, and an events center among other things. Now, they appear to own the domestic racing side of U4 and that includes the Ultra4 Racing TV Vimeo channel.
Cole also mentioned that the Hammerking team will also remain the same, with the majority of their focus being on the KOH. That being said, the email also mentioned that a new project is being created by Cole and Hammerking called “UltraTours” that will allow him to “spend more time wheeling.” Other KOH related news in the release was work between Hammerking, BLM, and the Marine Corps to expand the race map and bring back rock spots like Elvis and Galway.
More specifics are to be released “soon,” according to Cole but no exact date has been mentioned.
