Wagons, although mainstream in Europe, have more of a cultlike popularity in the U.S. Enthusiasts rejoice: Another wagon is coming stateside in the Audi RS6 Avant. The high-performance hauler is being offered in the U.S. for the first time after what Audi calls success with its “large global fan base.”

The A6 mid-size sedan was was redesigned for 2019, and the sporty S6 model is rejoining the lineup for 2020. Audi says the range-topping RS6 Avant will join the family in 2020, as well.
Exterior
The body is based on the A6 wagon available in Europe, but Audi says much of the new model is RS-specific, like its three-dimensional honeycomb grille with gloss-black finish and unique bumper. In back, there’s a roof spoiler, RS bumper and oval-shaped chrome-color tailpipes.
The wagon is 1.6 inches wider than the regular A6 Avant. According to reports, it rides on standard 21-inch cast aluminum wheels with a 10-spoke design; 22-inch wheels with a five-spoke design are optional.
Interior
Cabin highlights include the Volkswagen-owned luxury brand’s new dual touchscreen multimedia system, as well as the Audi Virtual Cockpit instrument panel, which features customizable menu displays for tire pressure, torque, power output, engine oil temperature, boost pressure, lap times, acceleration measurements and G-forces.
Under the Hood
Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, reported to be paired with a 48-volt hybrid system; the combined system is capable of pumping out 592 horsepower and 590 pounds-feet of torque. Audi says it launches from zero-to-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph.
Audi says the car’s Quattro all-wheel drive sport differential helps enhance cornering agility by actively splitting torque between each of the rear wheels; it can also direct nearly all torque to one wheel.
The RS6 Avant also comes with an adaptive air suspension that can be set to several modes to benefit comfort or performance. Drivers can also use the Audi Drive Select system to customize their driving experience via six modes: Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, Efficiency and the individually configurable RS-specific RS1 and RS2 modes, which can be activated directly using the “RS Mode” steering wheel button.
