We’ve landed at the Holley LS Fest West at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and are bringing you some of the flavor of what will be happening on May 3-5, 2019. Now in its third year, the Holley LS Fest West presented by Car Craft magazine builds on the success that was started by Holley several years ago in Bowling Green, KY at Beech Bend Raceway. As that event grew in popularity, it became clear that a West Coast event was logical and sustainable. Our first walk-through illustrates the eclectic assortment already on hand that has one thing in common: the LS engine. While the bulk of the cars are domestic, there is a mix from a number of continents on hand that spotlight the popularity of the LS swap, which now includes Gen 4 LS and Gen 5 LT-based mills of all flavors.
In the Holley universe of brands (MSD, Racepak, Diablosport, NOS, and Hooker to name a few) there has been an overwhelming effort to develop an entire line of products ranging from oil pans, headers, motor mounts, exhaust, accessory drives, carb conversions, ignition controllers, harnesses, and engine management systems. This effort to support the LS platform and its installation on a wide range of vehicles demonstrates its versatility in producing high horsepower—often a simple plug-and-play exercise—at a reasonable cost. Holley has seized on that reality by offering a wide range of hardware to make it happen in almost any vehicle.
The popularity of the LS-swap has also spawned hardware from other vendors, and those can be found in the manufacturer’s midway. Holley has rolled out the welcome mat to these companies to set up and display their wares, many of which further enhance and facilitate the LS installation. Jacking up the power on some of these LS-swapped cars also means enhancing the handling, cornering, and braking capabilities to match the performance levels coming from the engine bay. That challenge has also been met with a large laundry list of vendors that have stepped up to fill that void.
During this LS flavored weekend, we will see a wide range of activities at The Strip that go beyond the usual drag racing, auto crossing, burnout contest, and car show. There will be drifting, road course laps, The Baer Brakes 3S Challenge, chassis dyno, the Chevy High Performance High-Noon Shootout on Friday and Saturday, True Street competition, and the Cinco De Mayo Tire De Fry’O, which will pit several vehicles from the various LS Fest event segments against one another to see which can produce the most ridiculous display of tire shredding horsepower. Hot Rod staffer, Jacob Davis, will also be performing an LS transplant into an El Camino during the weekend. You can find him under the Roadkill tent by the grandstand.
