Hyundai pick-up truck is a go for the United States

According to a report by Reuters, Hyundai will launch a pick-up truck in the United States in the future, which will be similar in design to the Santa Cruz concept that debuted during the 2015 Detroit Motor Show.

The show vehicle was meant to gauge the public’s interest in a Hyundai truck, particularly millennials, and it appears there’s enough of it for the company’s top management to give the green light for development. This was revealed by Michael J. O’Brien, vice president of corporate and product planning at Hyundai USA.

Hyundai currently does not offer a pick-up truck in the US, and there’s no indication when a production version of the Santa Cruz will arrive. However, it was previously reported that such a model won’t be launched until at least 2020.

O’Brien also noted the company plans to launch its small SUV, the Kona, in the country later this year. First revealed in June this year, the Kona will enter a segment that includes the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3 and Toyota C-HR.
