A Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty franchise pioneer, Jeffrey James Schoepfel, died on December 11, 2022. He was born in Rochester, N.Y. in 1961.
Schoepfel was the founder and president of GSP Transportation, a company he launched in the ‘90s in Greenville, S.C. It started with just one location and grew to be the brand’s largest franchise in North America. “You don’t find too many 9,000-car franchises,” Brad Meyer, a consultant and former Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty franchisee, said.
Meyer knew Schoepfel since 2000. “Jeff was probably the best car-buying person I’ve ever known, it was definitely his specialty,” he said. “He was always willing to help other franchisees navigate those waters.”
Schoepfel lent his expertise to many others in the industry, earned a lot of respect, and was highly thought of in the industry.
Schoepfel enjoyed sports and history and spending time with his children. He is survived by his children, Jessica and Nicholas, and his former wife, Robin. He is preceded in death by his son, Brian Schoepfel, parents Bernice and David Schoepfel, and brother, David Schoepfel.
