The upcoming crossover version of the Kia Ceed hatchback gets a name, XCeed (we see what you did there, Kia), and it will apparently make its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March. So says Autocar, which added that the car will sit between the B-segment Stonic and the larger Sportage.
When it arrives, it will complete the four-strong family of Ceed-based models that already include the Ceed Sportswagon estate and the ProCeed shooting brake. It will compete with other similarly jacked-up hatchbacks in the segment, such as the Ford Focus Active and Volkswagen Golf Alltrack.
Previous spyshots have shown that the car will retain the Ceed family look, incorporating the wraparound headlights and trapezoidal “tiger nose” grille. It will likely get a new rear-end design, however, judging by the unique upswept window line and large amounts of disguise at the back of the development mule.
Expect the finished article to come with most of the same engines as the rest of the Ceed lineup, including 100 PS 1.4 litre naturally-aspirated MPi four-cylinder, 120 PS 1.0 litre turbocharged T-GDi three-cylinder and 140 PS 1.4 litre T-GDi four-cylinder petrol engines, along with a 1.6 litre CRDi turbodiesel in either 115 PS and 135 PS outputs, paired to a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
There probably won’t be an all-wheel drive option, however, nor a 204 PS GT version – the latter is expected to be reserved for the hatch and ProCeed models.
