Luftgekuhlt, the once-word-of-mouth gathering of curated air-cooled Porsches, will hold its next gathering at no less cool a location than the backlot of Universal Studios. Yes, the same streets and neighborhoods that once saw "Psycho," "Back to the Future," "The Sting" and even "Desperate Housewives" go down will now play host to some of the coolest cars in the country. The air-coolest cars.
“We have curated an experience that weaves together legendary movie sets such as Courthouse Square from 'Back to the Future' with the air-cooled Porsche story,” organizers said in a release. “Photographic composition and backdrops have always been the cornerstone of Luftgekuhlt, and this venue promises to present the best yet.”
Luftgekuhlt has been held at various locations around Los Angeles, including a San Pedro warehouse complex, a furniture-making facility in the heart of industrial downtown and, last year, in a lumber yard. There was another one in London and one in Munich, too. People love the idea, and the events are getting more and more crowded each year. Organizers encourage buying tickets early at shop.luftgekuhlty.com.
The Friday before the next Luft, on May 10, all the kuhl kids will bring their Porsches to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles for Air Meets Water, “an all-Porsche car show" with a DJ, projection wall and what they say will be “an exclusive vehicle unveiling." You can get tickets to that event here.
As organizers say, “Take a journey with us through parts of Hollywood’s history and explore iconic sets where usually only amusement tours are allowed.”
This will be far more amusing.
